Alejandro Vilarello, Esq.

Alejandro Vilarello, Esq. is a highly experienced and respected attorney with an extensive background representing clients in litigation matters and real property law including, but not limited to, the sale, acquisition, finance, development, construction, leasing and operation of multifamily, retail, mixed-use, commercial, industrial, condominium, and residential properties.

Mr. Vilarello began his legal career as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Miami working for the esteemed and highly respected City Attorney Jose Garcia-Pedrosa and then for the equally regarded City Attorney Lucia Allan Dougherty.  Both of these City Attorneys served as his mentors and legal career guiding stars.

Because of that strong foundation, Mr. Vilarello was given the opportunity and privilege to serve as the City Attorney for the City of Hialeah from 1990 through 1998.  In that capacity, he recruited and retained an excellent staff comprised of litigation attorneys, legal assistants, creating a highly regarded full service municipal law office that provided litigation, risk management, and comprehensive municipal and governmental legal services to one of the largest cities in the State of Florida.

Following that successful effort, Mr. Vilarello was solicited and appointed as the City Attorney of the City of Miami in 1998.

At that time, the City of Miami was in deep financial and administrative distress.  The then governor had created an Oversight Board of local financial and administrative professionals to oversee and approve all municipal contracts and expenditures.  In addition to the financial and administrative problems, the City was suffering from substantial political instability.  Some of the City’s citizens were calling for the City to be abolished and some neighborhoods were seeking to secede from the City of Miami.  In that cauldron, Mr. Vilarello, with the assistance of the elected officials, the members of the Governor’s Oversight Board, and the department heads and employees of the City of Miami, was able to create a municipal law office that was one of the finest local government law offices in the State of Florida.  He did this by mirroring and incorporating the goals he learned from his mentors.  Mr. Vilarello was privileged to have played a key role in the City’s resurgence into the world class city that it is today.

Having fulfilled his commitment to public service, in 2004 Mr. Vilarello joined the law firm of Akerman Senterfit, as a Shareholder in its land use and governmental relations practice group.  Amongst his first clients was Marty Caparros, a young and upcoming real estate developer who was riding the tsunami of the condominium conversion era and was in need of general counsel to manage the growing legal challenges facing his company.  Soon thereafter, Mr. Vilarello joined the Prestige Companies as its General Counsel and continues in that role today.

Over the years Mr. Vilarello expanded his law practice to represent many other clients.  In 2012, he partnered with N. Betty Gonzalez, Esq., to create the law firm Vilarello Gonzalez & Associates, LLP which is now in its 10th year.  That firm has been privileged to represent Mr. Caparros in his many endeavors as well as many other clients.

Mr. Vilarello’s expertise in real estate closings, title work, corporate law, zoning, land use, and business litigation combined with his dedication to serving his clients has earned him a stellar reputation as one of the top attorneys in his field.

Mr. Vilarello received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida in 1979 and his Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1982.
